Ahem!!! I don't really know and don't wanna bother to find out what "Hypertrophy" really is...
But I totally agree with the photographer, Wai Teik, in this stance. Asian faces deserve to be shot. It's been some times I observed the scene. Arrr! does that sound I am a guru aha!
A few days ago I uploaded a few ads without much words and asked you guys if anything common in those pictures.
Well I think it's rather obvious. And most of them are the ads from TODAY. And mind you. I took it just from one day. How many Asian and how many Caucasian, pan-asian models ruled the ads?
And sorry if you are rushing to label me a racist or I am biased. You are totally wrong. I might be originated from a very third world society but discrimination is never in my book. I will not go far into this subject but please be clear that writing this post is nothing to do with racist. But just writing what I find odd.
And all these while I thought photographers are somehow responsible in getting Caucasian hunks and babes shot off the press. One after another fashion shoots, magazines covers, pictorials and many more advertising medias.
Sometimes it's really mind boggling just to look at all those ads( trace back my earlier posts). In this Asia metropolitan, the Asia gate-way,the Singapore, the target audience is who? The population, the majorities are Asian.
So, they really make me standing up to go looking around the shops. And I don't really see ang moh ( Caucasian in local dialect)queuing up but the familiar Asian faces are on buying sprees in droves everywhere. Or shall we say this way? Advertisers think we Asian are spendthrift and need no more to lure us? No matter what we will buy and they only need to tickle the deep pocket ang moh? Aha..please tell me....
Another thought runs through my nerves then, that is maybe because we asian think it is a quality products seeing ang moh hunks' and babes' faces on the ads. Or the leading brands leading men and women might be Caucasians or western-educated asain the least, I think.
I am totally with you the advertisers if you say you would like to save some marketing pennies because you are selling Armani and alike. So you just rerun the ads from Italy or the ads that meant for international campaigns.
And I tell you, I stop buying Singapore Version Men's Health, Maxim, Stuff and other seasonal magazines and opt for the US version instead. I find they reprint it locally with local prices. That's all about Singapore Version as the contents, the models featured are hardly Asian.
And if I were a white American tourist I won't bother to buy the Reprint-In-Singapore Magazines either. I bet they do since our magazines do not offer any Asian Spices and beauties. I will throw back to the shelves after browsing it as nothing worthy to bring back home as models are from my home country.
And if I go to Brazil, I wouldn't want to buy a magazines full of Sun Ho, Jolin Tsai, Jay Chou or stars of the orient's photos. I rather pack something back full of native Latino's photos. Something that I never see and something exotic that are not available in Asia.
So Asia, will you still going on like this? So Singapore, we are trying to be a capital city of Asia, The hub of all thing Asia! I thin you overlook this minute area but equally important thing to be truly Asia. Better do something and I am sure you would be rewarded..
I am visualizing how exciting and vibrant the Singapore Model, Fashion scenes would be with fair shares of Pan-Asian, Caucasian Models sashaying down catwalks, shooting the covers along side with Thai Models, Filipino Hunks, Vietnam beauties. Multi-national faces, Multi- talents. Exciting and Happening cosmopolitan Singapore...
(if anyone miss the paper and want to read full articles on Wai Teik's views, please leave a comment or email me seanm_71@hotmail.com and I will mail you a PDF file. But hey till the stock last huh..haha.. till I gotta clear up my memory ok! Cheers!

An interesting point you have brought up. Honestly I have not really noticed the fact that most models are Westerners. Perhaps somehow I have just accepted it as a norm *gasp*.
To me, it doesn't matter much if the models of the advertisements are Asians or Westerners - so long as they make the product attractive (by the way, I think the models for Shampo products are mostly Asians now that I come to think of it). And to me, models are just models regardless of where they come from.
My humble thought is that modeling is still not something that is common in Singapore. Unlike places like Hong Kong, Probably because of the population size or the yet-to-be-vibrate culture.
PS. I found your site via SGBlog.com by the way. Hope you don't mind I drop a comment or two from time to time.
Hi! yap.. you are most welcome to drop comments as many as you want. I just want a good mix of east and west and in a way Singapore could be the very hub of everything right.
And also we could offer a present back home for our western guests who visit Singapore, the asia gateway. And they can spread the asian godies in thier backyards that in Asia, the hunks and the babes are cool too...haha,,, cheers
