The Straights Times features a series of photos of Myanmar Kids in LIFE, which we used to seeing glamourous shots of celebrities.
Well... yeah anyway it is only right to put those photo here in LIFE so that it highlighted a shocking contrast of the lives of the two different worlds. And they are celebrities in their own way right!..I want to scan and share with you but something's going wrong with the blogger's template so I can't upload the photos. " All in a day's work for kids in Myanmar", It's on Saturday Paper. If the blogger's back to normal, I will upload it.
Anyway I anticipate that when reading the article and looking at the featured photos, we will have different views which derive from different perspectives.
Basically I am sadden to see the children are hard at works while their counterparts from this part of the world would be hitting computer keyboards playing games. Yup hard playing too..
Just how I title this post, it's a nake truth. And I have no intention to hide it neither going to defend if they are make-up photos. It's a common sight, in MYANMAR, to see children across the industries. Not just mending tea shops. You could see them in construction sites. You could see them in motor repairing and washing centres.
So they are ' child labours' we can say. It is a major problem and hair raising issues for developing countries. And even in our neighbouring countries, which awe the world by their sky-rocketing GDP and growth, they are still having problem in this area. But.. the situation in India and China are improving as they are in fast lane in building up their Economy and channelling some money to tackle it. But we? ummm... I don't know.. if I have to say in a manner that is politically correct.
But the children in those photos? it is very unlikely that they are working as hard to make their lives better for all I know. They could barely survive. They are there with no other alternative. They could be the breadwinners of their families. And they are not there on holiday jobs for extra pocket money. And for tea shops' owners, they favour children instead of adults as they have less baggages, less trouble which their elders might bring along. They are more obedient and easy to keep before your eyes. Of course less pay could be a major component in employing them.
I hope the situation could turn around very soon so that the much needed system, to safeguard all these children and put them in school, be in place. But beore that can happen..( would take sometimes)
...May I request the ST reporters to feature some well-fed, over-nourished, Nanny Accompanied kids tossing multi-millions-worth( Myanmar currency)gadgets. I understand it might be very hard to get closer to those kids but worth a try and please show some sense of unity being ASEAN. We are 'one' right... if you just portray all these malnourished kids...I am afraid we might get labelled being " Etiopia of Asia".... I am feeling downwards bad and enough to see kids in Africa suffering..So no second Etiopia..please and the reporters you are responsible..
It is well known we are left far behind in Rising Asia Economy Frenzy for some reasons and it is 'NAKED TRUTH' that so much things are worse beyond your imagination, so please write and feature something pleasant. Dont let ASEAN down I say.....
Cheers and puns not intended..
