Too big a word! you might think. Of course if you think superficially and if it's from this ordinary Joe called "Sai Sai OK".
But it was from Daw Suu, A May Suu ( Mother Suu, lovingly addressed by most Myanmar Citizens) or Aung San Suu Kyi.
Her appearance at the World Economic Forum in Bangkok created much excitement than any other guests at the gathering. Every single word from her got full attention from all quarters and at the end of her speech, she's honoured with standing ovation. Her appearance and speech were anticipated at home and abroad and many netizens tuned in to hear what she's talking. I dare say we have never been so interested in or excited to watch and hear what our country's delegates talked at any world's forum or the likes. Or I would say, it is like none of our business whoever represent Myanmar and whatever the representatives talked. Their attendants were not critical or their speeches ( I even doubt if there is any speech) are just too plain? It is even not in our thought who were constantly having to fight for daily food dosage. Over the years, we become total strangers to the world affairs and it was like Myanmar has nothing to do with the would out there. Stand alone and self-sufficient Myanmar.
To these days, certain quarters still blindly say no one would ever die out of starvation or hunger in Myanmar. For some obvious reasons, a lot of us have to swallow our own saliva to fill our thirst, smiled lifelessly, eyes in daze and looking away to gesture our agreement in silence. It is a bitter truth that 80 % of population are in dilemma but till now those who responsible and the company still said "NO".
Corruption is all-too-common that it associates with everyone and become a norm. Taking bribe is not a crime or it was a standard question to ask each other "How much under table money you receive in your department?"
It was sad when the bribery got involved in our livelihood from a very young tender age. Bribing the headmasters to get a place in a good school, bribing teachers to favour us in classes and the grades till you are graduated from universities.
Fresh grats? Bribe our ways through to get on a place that earn us a great deal of under tables.
What I am talking about bribery here against reckless optimism you wonder? Because bribery is also becoming lawless and reckless. Just kidding! If you read Daw Suu's speech at the WEF she also said d that "We do not want investment to mean more possibilities for corruption".
Another word I like and agree with her is that "youth unemployment" is a time bomb. How long more and how the ruling party/the government is going to handle the mass unemployment or are they still thinking that is not the government problems if its' people are employed or got jobs to do to earn a living? To this date, Mind your own well-being!, is what all of us are doing.
Sometimes I felt funny about the debate or the answers from some immature quarters who blindly ignore the reality, the current situation and said how much had been done during the past 40 years or so. Really! I should be agitated but I felt funny from their tones! I don't mean the young are nuts but given their age and total life experience, reading knowledge is the only thing they could say their best. No real life experience, no hardship that they gone through and yet barking at more tested comrades like seasoned Historians or Generals.
My classic example is that if a penniless man like me finger pointing at George Soros and shouting " Poor Man! Beggar.. " Will he feel sad or angry? He won't ! He will think I am insane or smile feeling funny instead.
Just don't turn the blind eyes for the sake of going against someone because you are being propagated to do so.
Mind you! Don't think of me belonging to the other camp. I am a free and independent individual so far and I am supporting anyone who could bring the country towards a free and fair, equal opportunity society. A full democracy country.
For me, I could say, my own country has no level playing field but a wide open field full of reckless opportunists. For the majority lots or the commoners, wait... till then...
